The Best Portable Bandsaw For Under $200

The Dewalt 12v Max Extreme Portable Band Saw

For metal fabrication and on site work it is important to have a variety of cutting tools that help you get the job done right. Traditionally speaking for stock metal cuts and production runs, a stationary band saw has been my tool of choice. But working as a free lance builder in a smaller shop has encouraged me to stay as mobile as possible with my tooling. Enter the Dewalt 12V Max Extreme Portable Band Saw. Check out the quick video below to see our run through on this tool.

All in all this saw is a pretty good choice if your looking for some quick cutting power without the excessive size or cost. The downside is that the max cutting width on this tool is 1.75” which limits you to what style of stock you can cut or how you will cut it. For example, 2x1 steel must be cut on the linear grain, cutting down into the 2” section as opposed to across that width. I also find that this is not ideal for miters of any kind and would stick to a stationary band saw or skill saw with a metal demon blade for that use. In short, for $160 it is definitely worth a test drive.
